I -Ignition. On.

C - Clear. "Clear Prop".

S - Start. Start Engine. Kill Switch. Vibration. Warm Up.




PRE-TAKE OFF: W H I P S & M A C E


W - Wind and weather. Speed and direction, incoming.

H – Helmet and Harness. Helmet on and fastened, harness all fastened and chest strap set, reserve pin in.

I – Instruments. On, set.

P – Performance limitations. Did I check that a take-off can safely be made from this field in these conditions?

S – Straps and Security. No loose items, pockets closed, drawstrings, hoods.

M - Motor. Motor running cleanly and revving normally. Idle.

A - All Clear. Above & In Front. Traffic. Keep Checking.

C – Controls. Correctly held for launch type, no twists, trimmers set.

E – Eventualities. Plans for dealing with emergencies during the take off and climb out.




PRE-LANDING: W U T F I S T


W – Wind. Direction & Strength.

U – Undercarriage. Down & Locked!

T – Trimmers. Set for Landing.

F – Fuel. Sufficient.

I – Ignition. Power On or Power Off?

S – Security. Loose Items. Speedbar & Stirrup Secure.

T – Throttle. Full & Free Movement – If Used.

IN FLIGHT CHECKS
F - Fuel sufficient to complete journey, check consumption vs actual distance covered.
R - Radio still working, GPS batteries OK
E - Temps etc if sensors fitted
D - Direction...are you going the right way
A -Altitude..are you flying at the right height for wind penetration or controlled airspace.

BEFORE YOU TURN
L - Look both ways then in the turn direction.
S - Start a shallow bank while looking up and down in the turn direction
F - Finally do your turn constantly looking up and down in the turn direction.

BEFORE DOING EXTREME MANOEUVERS..incl wingovers..
R - Reserve , know where it is and how to use it. ( Repack regularly )
H - Height make sure you have enough height to recover safely from the manoeuvre.
A - Airframe, don`t attempt anything unless you are 100% sure your motor & wing are up to the job.
S - Straps, make sure you are properly strapped in & helmet is on tight.
S - Security, nothing is going to fall off or flight bag / map flip up into your face
E - Check your engine is running ok & throttle will not get stuck etc.
L - Lookout  both above and below.
L - Location if you screw up & throw your reserve where will you land. Over water ?
